It’s that time of year again-- the kids are almost out of school and you are suddenly in need of Summer entertainment! Whether it’s Mom and Dad or Grandma and Grandpa that are looking for ideas for Summer fun with the kids, we’ve got you covered.
We took a dip in the fountain of youth to find the best local, kid-friendly events and activities going on in the Bee Cave/Lakeway area this Summer. Here’s to keeping the kiddos on the go and off the iPads!
For the Movie Buffs:
If you’ve got little ones who like swimming, Disney movies, and popcorn, boy do we have the thing for you! On select Friday nights throughout the summer, the Lakeway Swim Center will be hosting PG “Dive-In Movies” at 8:30 PM. For just $3/person, you and the kids can float around in the Swim Center’s awesome pool while watching a kid-friendly movie. Or, enjoy the show from one of the chairs at the pool’s edge while the kids swim away some energy! Possibly the greatest combination invented since the PB&J? We’ll let you be the judge.
Movies featured this summer:
June 9: Moana
July 21: Finding Dory
June 23: Alice Through the Looking Glass
August 4: Zootopia

Movies in the Park
Okay, so maybe you like Disney movies and popcorn, but aren’t crazy about cleaning up wet bathing suits. Don’t worry, Lakeway’s City Park will be showing movies at dusk on select Fridays throughout the summer. With picnic-style seating, you can curl up on a cozy blanket or bring a comfy chair to watch the show. And, the best part is, it’s free. (And so is the popcorn!)
Movies featured this summer:
June 16: Secret Life of Pets
July 14: Sing
July 28: The Wild Life
August 11: Lego Batman Movie

Get your groove on to the voices of David Cummings and Lisa Clark, or watch all the craziness unfold from the comfort of the provided tables and seating. Bring your favorite drinks and snacks and enjoy the show- for free!

For the Kids with Gills: Lake Travis
Did you hear? Lake Travis is back! After years of low rainfall and corresponding low water levels, Lake Travis is revived and ready to take on your water-loving kiddos. Here’s some of our favorite things to do on the lake:
Pack a picnic
And don't forget the sunscreen when you head to one of Lake Travis’ many parks! You can soak up some sun in the sand or relax in the shade of a tree while the kids swim their hearts out.

Teach your little ones the art of fishing! Grab a rod and reel and do some shoreline fishing at one the public parks. Or take it to the next level with the experienced Lake Travis fishing guide Allen Christenson. (Insider tip-- stop at the Marshall Ford Food Mart on Highway 620 for a nice selection of bait!)

Boats and Floats
Hit the open waters and rent a boat! Cruise in a pontoon, anchor down and let the kids do some off-the-boat swimming. Or, rent a speed boat and take them tubing or waterskiing. When the tummies start rumbling, putter on over to one of the many restaurants on the lake with boat access. Restaurants with boat access:
For the Animal Lovers: Austin Zoo & The Natural Gardener
Nothing says Summer fun like a trip to the zoo. If your little ones are the type that like to get up close and personal with furry friends, hop on over to The Natural Gardener on Old Bee Caves Road. Although primarily a gardening center, The Natural Gardener is home to a variety of small farm animals that you can visit with, as well as a butterfly garden and interactive gardening activities. If you’ve got more of a “look-but-don’t-touch” crowd, head to the non-profit Austin Zoo to watch all view animals of all kinds.
The Lake Travis area is crawling with Summer fun for kids—just get out there and jump in! And if you are looking to move to the area to be closer to your little loves, don't forget to visit us in Serene Hills or Canyonside and see what low-maintenance, single-story homes we've got available.
Summer, here we come!
