The city of Bee Cave is located in Travis County about 12 miles west of Austin and has a population of almost 4,000. The name originates from a group of early settlers who happened upon a cave of bees many years ago. In 1870 a post office was opened with the name Bee Caves, and a year later the settlement began as a trading post. A great place to raise a family with one of the best school districts and lots of space and privacy, Bee Cave also attracts empty nesters, retirees, and young professionals that want a home away from the bustle of the city. Bee Cave has grown rapidly over the years and is surrounded by golf courses, water and outdoor activities and countless shopping and dinning choices. Located near Austin and Lake Travis, living in Bee Cave means having the small town feel of community while still enjoying the excitement of a big city. From a humble beginning, Bee Cave has developed into a highly sought after and loved city with one part small town charm, one part scenic getaway and a dash of city flavor.
